Among fisherfolk, it’s well known that the best month for bass fishing almost anywhere in the U.S. is October.
If you’re a bass fisherman, fisherwoman or know someone who is, then you’re likely already getting the boat prepped for a trip to your favorite lake. Bass fishing is popular throughout most of the U.S. in October, but a few locations are considered among the best. Texas is one of them.
They say everything is bigger in Texas and that’s also true of the fish. There are so many incredible lakes, rivers, and streams throughout Texas, it’s hard to decide where to go. Throughout the years Texas has continued to top the list for some of the best fishing in the country.
Remember, before you invite the boss and friends for the bass fishing event, check out your bass boat to be sure you have no operating issues. Most of all, make sure you have a battery that won’t let you down. Here are a few helpful tips on the subject of marine batteries.
Odyssey Extreme batteries are top contenders for power and service life. With twice the overall power and three times the life of conventional marine batteries, an Odyssey battery will get you out on the water reliably, even after long periods of storage. Once you’re out there, troll longer with deep cycling power, even as you run accessories and equipment.
Some batteries offer enormous cranking power. Others, deep cycle reserve power. Unbeatable Odyssey Extreme batteries do both. Even at very low temperatures this battery has the power to provide engine-cranking pulses in excess of 2250 amps for 5 seconds – double to triple that of equally sized conventional batteries. And they can handle 400 charge-discharge cycles to 80% depth of discharge. This battery has enough power to start many powerboats without breaking a sweat, and its rugged construction protects it against vibration and impacts that can easily damage other batteries.
With reliability like Odyssey batteries provide, you can concentrate on catching that prize-winning, 10-lb. bass and impress the boss at the same time.
Florida, Minnesota, and Pennsylvania are also great bass fishing states, but for Texas fishermen, these are some of the best locations to catch monster-size bass -- especially in October.
- Lake Fork Reservoir – Lake Fork is known by locals as the best spot for large-mouth in the entire state, and if you ask them, they’ll tell you it’s the best spot in the country. This lake has plenty of cover, standing timber, and channels that attract bass upwards of 14 pounds.
- Galveston Bay – This is the largest estuary in Texas and the seventh largest in the US. This location attracts anglers all year long.
- Lake Ray Hubbard – If black bass is your game, Lake Ray Hubbard offers plenty of aquatic vegetation and bridge pilings.
- Benbrook Lake – Over on the Fort Worth side of the DFW Metroplex, Benbrook Lake is just a couple of miles out of the city. Benbrook Lake is home to a ton of Hybrid Stripers, as well as regular White Bass and lunker Large Mouths.
