Your Vehicle Wants to Celebrate National Battery Day!
02/03/2021

February 18th is a great day to show your car or truck the appreciation it deserves by purchasing a reliable, new battery from your local Continental Battery dealership.

Millions of dollars of research and innovation went into what is now the modern lead battery. The lead battery industry today provides energy storage for over 270 million vehicles and 65 percent of forklifts in the United States.

Thanks to lead batteries, the reliability of renewable energy facilities protect the $1 trillion U.S. communications infrastructure with uninterruptible power supply. First responders also use this energy source to rapidly deploy lighting and other mobile electronics during emergencies. In addition, the U.S. military relies on lead batteries to provide onboard power to ground support vehicles to keep our troops safe and powers vehicles used for bomb detection and disposal.

The sustainability, reliability and scalability of lead battery technology make it a key tool to achieve the goal of a green energy future. For example, lead battery innovations enable vehicles to improve fuel efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions through start-stop technology which is expected to prevent two million tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually, or the equivalent of 211,000 U.S. households.

Offering solutions at almost one-third of the cost of comparable energy storage systems, lead battery technology is used in many solar and wind facilities to regulate the variability and increase reliability of on-demand power. They store excess energy when demand is low and release it when demand is high, ensuring a steady supply of energy to millions of homes.

Whether we realize it or not, lead batteries power our lives and our economy in ways seen and unseen. In 2016, the U.S. lead battery industry enabled more than 95,000 jobs and contributed more than $28 billion in total economic output to the national economy.

On National Battery Day, February 18th, and every day, there are many good reasons to celebrate the essential lead battery technology.

The proven benefits, recyclability, and sustainability of lead batteries with policymakers and regulators is important to transportation, telecommunications, renewable energy and as back-up power to many essential services.

Sustainability is a big deal to us at Continental Battery Co and batteries continue to be our passion. Since 1932, we have been not only selling batteries, but also recycling them because we feel it is our responsibility as mindful corporate citizens. In fact, we recycle more batteries than we sell. Within our nationwide network the thousands of dealers who consistently return used batteries for recycling, continue to demonstrate the pride we take in our environmental initiatives.

At Continental Battery Co, we understand there are many questions tied to knowing battery technology. That’s why we have created this handy FAQ page to answer as many questions as possible.
